ROOT CELLARs and Cooking

Root Cellar in side of mountain - Bluecreek - photo by Catherine dee Auvil

Have always wanted a root cellar. I have so much to do here I don't know if I have time. Meanwhile, my house gets too hot in the summer to store food. My barn gets too cold. There is a room inside my barn and I am thinking I may be able to insulate it so it would work. I am reading:

A great resource is Mary's Nest. Mary Bryant Shrader has a popular YouTube channel where she cooks from scratch and preserves food with traditional techniques like canning, fermenting, and drying. I bought her cookbook:

I am so inspired by this woman's life and her cooking skills:

My name is Nguyễn Thiên Ân. I spent the first 10 years of my life in Vietnam where I learned the most irreplaceable lessons and experiences that I took for granted.

Welcome to "The Squash Vines,” a collection of recipes, wisdoms, and stories from the ancestors on how to be the stoic calm in the storm, a steward of Nature, and how to be human. I am a cultural writer and STORYTELLER who just HAPPENS to cook and garden.

Charity Navigator

I wanted to know which is the best water charity (mission is for clean water) so I went to Charity Navigator, which is the only place I know where they evaluate charities. I think they do a pretty good job? I used filters: water, environment, 4 stars (their highest rating) and largest charities - over 50 million budget - I chose this filter because I want a charity that has a worldwide scope. This is what I got:

Rocky Mountain Institute

Southern Environmental Law Center
their focus is the US South

charity: water

Environmental Defense Fund
